- 45 minutes shared dogsledding experience
- Drive the sled yourself
- Meet husky puppies
Are you ready to be a musher? You will need to balance, hold on and even help your dog team when going uphill. While challenging, working with the huskies is both fun and rewarding. While being in charge of the husky sled team you will also have time to take in the landscapes and arctic air. There is no need to fear overexerting yourself either as there will be a change of driver and passenger at the halfway point. At the pick-up point outside of the Radisson Blu Hotel you will meet a Tromsø Villmarkssenter employee. You need to arrive 15 minutes in advance. They will direct you to the right vehicle and the transfer will take 25 minutes. At the destination your guide will greet you. After equipping you with a thermal suit and boots, you will get all the necessary instructions for dogsledding. Before starting you will be paired up either with one of your travel companions or another adventurer. The two of you will take turns driving the sled and sitting as a passenger, making the change at the halfway point. In total the sledding experience will last 45-60 minutes. Back at the starting point your guide will take you to the dog yard for a guided tour. The center has 300 Alaskan huskies, from young puppies to old veterans. You will get to meet and learn about them, competitive dogsled racing and more. The sledding workout and tour will probably have helped you build up an appetite. Fittingly, the tour finishes off with a meal of bidos, a reindeer dish often enjoyed by the Sami people, or a vegetarian dish (must be requested in advance). You can have hot drinks and chocolate cake for dessert. The lunch is around a fire, so you are sure to warm up again. Then finally, you will be transported back to Tromsø. Tromsø Villmarkssenter has many years of experience in teaching beginners how to be a musher. Aside from getting thorough instructions before heading out, every tour is accompanied by a guide on the trail. COVID-19 measures: If you have symptoms similar to the flu or the common cold, you should not take part in the tour.
