As with all professions, becoming a full-fledged sled dog takes lots of training. The puppies from Tromsø Villmarkssenter start from an early age with socializing. Puppies in the range of four weeks to eight months old are ready to explore the nearby terrain with you. Out in nature, they will be given various challenges that will help prepare them for sled dog life. Reward their good behavior with treats and cuddles. The tour starts directly at Tromsø Villmarkssenter. You will therefore need your own means of transport to get there. If you drive the guest parking lot is the second on the right and it's just a short walk up to the entrance from there. The guide will be ready to greet you and check if you need to rent any rainwear for the tour. Before meeting the puppies, you will get to meet their role models, the adult Alaskan huskies, in the dog yard. After having learned about them it will be time to educate the puppies. After getting acquainted with the little ones you will go with them into the nearby area. The terrain around the center consists mostly of moor so be sure to wear appropriate clothing. The exercises depend on the age of the puppies and are always done by positive reinforcement. In total, the training session will last 1-1.5 hours. After training the puppies will need some rest. So, say goodbye and head back to Tromsø with your own transport. COVID-19 measures: If you have symptoms similar to the flu or the common cold, you should not take part in the tour. The main symptoms of COVID-19 are fever, couching, sore throat, and breathing difficulty. When you arrive you must keep a 1-meter distance from the guides and other participants. When you enter the front desk area, lavvus, or gamme you need to use the provided hand sanitizer. You can also find handwashing facilities in the building next to the front desk. In the front desk area, you must follow the line system and stay in the marked waiting spots. You cannot share equipment you borrow from Tromsø Villmarkssenter with other guests. All equipment is cleaned between use according to the requirements set by the government. All contact surfaces disinfected between every group. Enjoy a 10 to 15-minute sleigh ride as the reindeer guide you around the valley and along the coast. Afterwards, you will have the opportunity to feed 300 of these magnificent animals before entering the gamme for a hot traditional meal cooked over the fire. Finish the day by gathering around the fire to listen to Sami history, stories and joiking (songs).
